Spring is here, and we have a few exciting updates to share with the community!

Landscapers are dethatching the grass to rejuvenate and stimulate growth of our Kamalani lawns.  Lawns will turn brown, before they quickly green up again.  Dethatching removes the thick layer of dead plant material (thatch), allowing air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots and soil again. Our lawns will drain better and look healthy and green.

Please don't leave your great "stuff" by the trash bins.  Open the lid and deposit inside.  Our contractors will not haul it away.

Thank you, Sean, for negotiating a Kamalani campus-wide dethatching with the landscapers, at no additional cost to the Association of Unit Owners of Kamalani, and for hanging-in-there to finally freeing our Kamalani campus, and immediate surroundings, of abandoned autos!! 

BOARD NEWS

Board Vacancy.  If you are interested in serving on the Board, please submit a one page "Statement of Interest" by May 15 to Kamalani Property Manager MarilynC@hmcmgt.com, to be included in the upcoming Board meeting packet. A "Statement of Interest" submitted prior to the April newsletter request will not be considered. You must be a legal owner to serve on the Board.  Board members are expected to prepare for, attend and participate in all monthly Board meetings.

HOUSE RULES 

Reminders - As we prepare for summer holiday gatherings (Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc) keep in mind that...

• "Fireworks are strictly prohibited..." (House Rule #13).  

• Outdoor cooking - (hibachi, grills, etc) "...is permitted on any Limited Common Element driveway located directly outside the Unit's garage or within the ...yard... provided that said cooking is not performed under any structural overhang" (House Rule #16). 

  • WARNING:  Be careful not to get too close to the vinyl fence.  The heat of the grill may damage and warp the fence.  If your fence has been damaged, please contact Sean to repair. 

Violations - Recently, have included unapproved window covering, personal items on the lanai or common areas, surfboard above the fence line, rusted screen door, and algae growing on the window screen. Ask your neighbor to help you identify a potential House Rules violation before it becomes one. Our quality of life at Kamalani, and the resale value of our property, depends on us, in part, keeping our community tidy and presentable.

Note: There is a fine schedule for each House Rule violation, that doubles each time a violation is repeated, and will be billed to the owner of that unit for payment. (See House Rule January 2019, Amended September 19, 2019 to add Fine Schedule).

RECIPE for SHRIMP CEVICHE from Sherry #2102. Easy and Excellent!!

Fresh shrimp, uncooked, peeled and deveined. Cut into 4-5 pieces per shrimp. 3 limes. Squeeze fresh lime juice over shrimp. Refrigerate overnight.

Add to shrimp...

• red onion, diced

• tomato, diced

• 1 or 2 avocado, diced

• cilantro, chopped

Cover all with more line juice, if needed. Let all sit awhile to blend flavors.

Serve with tortilla chips.   

CALENDAR

May 27 - Board Meeting. Owners and aspiring Board members are welcome to attend. The Board meets monthly on the 4th Thursday.  Notices are posted in the bulletin boards on property 72 hours before a board meeting. Due to COVID-19 Emergency rules, the board has been meeting via zoom. Zoom meeting information is included in the notices. If you have any questions, please contact Marilyn Chapman at MarilynC@hmcmgt.com.

June 2 - Pest Control.  Mid-Pacific Pest Control completes 2nd quarter treatment for pests outside all Kamalani buildings. Schedule a personal appointment, for a fee paid directly to Mid-Pacific, to treat inside your unit, including garage, porch and/or yard, by calling (808) 796-5052.

Fall 2021 - Annual Meeting. Specific date and meeting details TBD.  Members of the Association of Unit Owners of Kamalani Board of Directors (9) will be elected to new/renewed terms of service.
